The Movie Series at Pullen Park wraps up October 6 with Toy Story 5 at Pullen Park Amusements. Families can arrive at 5:00 PM for a kids’ Toy Story character costume contest before the movie starts at 6:00 PM. Bring blankets or lawn chairs for the event lawn, and stop by Pullen Café for popcorn and refreshments. October 3 — Free Plants for Arboretum Members
Free plants tend to get gardeners moving pretty quickly, and the J.C. Raulston Arboretum is giving away thousands of them during one of its longest-running traditions.
The Friends of the Arboretum Annual Plant Giveaway takes place on Saturday, October 3, from 9 AM to 9:15 AM. Each fall, arboretum members get the chance to take home choice and rare plants completely free.
The tradition dates back to the arboretum’s early years, when sharing plants helped build a community of gardeners while introducing a wider variety of interesting plants into local landscapes. That same idea continues today, with thousands of plants finding new homes in gardens throughout the area.
This is one event where bringing a wagon or cart is actively encouraged—and with the giveaway lasting just 15 minutes, arriving ready to haul your new plants home seems like a very good idea.
