Every Wednesday, Raleigh City Farm opens its Pay-What-You-Can Farmstand from 4:00–7:00 PM at 800 N. Blount Street. August’s harvest includes tomatoes, figs, melon, eggplant, peppers, squash, cucumbers, and basil, with the selection changing slightly each week. You’ll also find summer bouquets and farm merch.

There’s a suggested price, but shoppers can pay that amount, pay less, or pay extra to help cover someone else’s purchase. Cash, cards, Venmo, and SNAP are accepted. It’s walk-up only and first come, first served, so earlier is better when harvests are limited.

August 29 — New to Southern Gardening? Start Here.

Gardening in North Carolina comes with its own learning curve. Between the summer heat, unpredictable soils, and persistent pests, what works elsewhere doesn't always work here.

On Saturday, August 29, from 9 AM to 12 PM, the J.C. Raulston Arboretum will host Intro to Gardening in the South, a morning lecture series sponsored by Leaf & Limb. Designed with beginners in mind, the program offers practical guidance for starting and maintaining a successful garden in Raleigh and throughout the Southeast.

Experts will cover the challenges and opportunities that come with gardening in the region, helping attendees better understand local growing conditions and how to work with them instead of against them. Whether you've recently moved to the area or are planting your very first garden, the workshop is intended to build a strong foundation for seasons to come.
