Ahoy, movie lovers! Movie Night: Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl drops anchor at the Great Lawn Pavilion on Friday, August 7, from 6 PM–10:30 PM. Come early for family-friendly activities before the movie begins around 8:10 PM, then settle in with your favorite blanket or lawn chair for an evening of swashbuckling fun. Food trucks will also be on site, so dinner is covered.
Whether you're a longtime Captain Jack Sparrow fan or introducing someone to the adventure for the first time, it's a fun way to spend a summer evening.

August 4 — Discover Trees That Beat the Summer Heat
By August, just about everyone has a new appreciation for a good shade tree.
On Tuesday, August 4, from 9 AM to 10 AM, the J.C. Raulston Arboretum will host a Plant-Lover's Tour focused on Trees That Make Great Shade, led by Director of Horticulture Greg Paige. During the walk, Paige will share some of his favorite trees for creating cooler, more comfortable outdoor spaces, from towering specimens that can shelter an entire park to smaller varieties better suited for today's home landscapes.
Along the way, participants will learn what makes these trees valuable not only for people seeking relief from the summer sun, but also for wildlife and the surrounding garden. It's a chance to explore one of Raleigh's most beautiful green spaces while picking up practical ideas for your own yard—or simply enjoying an hour surrounded by remarkable trees.
