A Café Where You Choose What to Pay
Most restaurants have one thing in common: the price is set before you walk through the door. A Place at the Table takes a different approach.
As Raleigh's first pay-what-you-can café, the nonprofit serves breakfast and lunch all day while inviting guests to pay the suggested price, pay less, or volunteer in exchange for a meal. More than 80 people volunteer for their meals each day, creating opportunities to build skills, make connections, and help keep the café running.
One of the more interesting things about A Place at the Table is that it operates much like any other neighborhood restaurant. The difference comes at the register, where the payment model reflects the café's mission of making meals accessible regardless of someone's financial situation.
It's a simple idea with a community focus: everyone is welcome at the table, and everyone has a way to participate.
