October 21 — Build Strength with a Pilates Mat Class

Pilates doesn't necessarily require complicated equipment. Sometimes, a mat and your own body weight are enough for a challenging workout.

On Wednesday, October 21, at 5:30 PM, Heights Pilates in downtown Raleigh is offering a mat class based on the original exercises developed by Joseph Pilates.

The workout combines strength training, stretching, and controlled movements designed to challenge your muscles, stamina, and coordination. Instructors incorporate props such as Pilates magic circles, exercise balls, and arm weights to add variety and resistance throughout the session.

Unlike Pilates classes that use specialized machines, mat Pilates relies primarily on body-weight exercises, making it a different way to experience the method.

All experience levels are welcome, so you don't need an extensive Pilates background to participate. Just be prepared for a workout that puts your strength and flexibility to the test.

Dock 1053 is one of those places you stumble upon and wonder how you didn’t know about it sooner. It’s this old A&P warehouse from the '50s that’s been transformed into a creative hub…think coworking spaces, local eats, and craft brews all under one roof. You can grab a sandwich at Wilson’s Eatery, sip on a beer from Lynnwood Brewing, or just hang out with your dog in the courtyard. It’s got that perfect mix of history and hip, without trying too hard.
