Forest Bathing at JC Raulston Arboretum: A Mindful Walk Among the Trees

Two hours of slowing down, looking up, and letting nature do its thing.

Ever wish you could hit the reset button without touching your phone? On Saturday, June 27, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, certified Forest Therapy Guide Shawn Ramsey will lead a gentle forest bathing experience through the natural areas of JC Raulston Arboretum. Inspired by the Japanese practice of Shinrin-yoku, this guided journey includes mindful pauses, sensory activities, and quiet reflection designed to help you relax and reconnect with the natural world.

Curious what a "sit stop" in the woods actually looks like? You can register here. Fair warning: you may leave with a new appreciation for trees.

Not sponsored. We just think the forest deserves some fan mail. (Just so you know: Sponsored content in our newsletter is always marked with “*”).

A Cow Sanctuary You Can Actually Visit

Most people don't spend much time thinking about where retired cows go. Brajboro Cow Sanctuary in Chapel Hill exists to care for cows for life, and on weekends, visitors are invited to come meet them.

The nonprofit sanctuary is open Saturdays and Sundays from 8 AM to 12 PM, although hours change with the seasons, so it's a good idea to check the website before heading out. Visitors can feed the cows bananas, carrots, cucumber, and celery, enjoy a picnic at the on-site picnic tables, or try out the slack line while spending time on the property.

Admission is $25 for adults, while children under 12 are admitted free. The admission fee helps support the ongoing care of the cows, making a visit part outing and part way to support the sanctuary's mission.

Raleigh Hidden Gem:

The Country Doctor Museum is one of those hidden gems you almost don’t believe exists until you see it. It’s tucked away in this unassuming spot, but when you walk inside, it’s like stepping back in time. They’ve got these old medicine bottles, weird-looking doctor tools, and even a hand-cranked wheelchair that makes you grateful for modern medicine. It’s a little bit eerie, a lot fascinating, and one of those places that makes you appreciate how far we’ve come.
